Maia-2 (CSSLab/maia2) — MIT
Used for "What would a player at your level play?" in game review. The model (public/maia/maia2_rapid.onnx, exported by scripts/maia/export_maia2.py from the official "rapid" weights) and the board encoding in src/lib/play-and-learn/coach/maia.ts derive from it. The weights are published by CSSLab through the MIT-licensed package; they carry no separate license.

ONNX Runtime Web (microsoft/onnxruntime) — MIT
Runs Maia-2 in the browser (public/ort/, copied from node_modules/onnxruntime-web). Copyright (c) Microsoft Corporation.
Stockfish and stockfish.js — GPL-3.0
The engines in public/engine/ (Stockfish 10, bots) and public/stockfish/ (Stockfish 19 lite, analysis) run unmodified in the browser as separate programs. Stockfish (c) T. Romstad, M. Costalba, J. Kiiski, G. Linscott and contributors; stockfish.js (c) Chess.com, LLC. Source: https://github.com/official-stockfish/Stockfish and https://github.com/nmrugg/stockfish.js. The full license text ships in node_modules/stockfish/Copying.txt.
Lichess puzzle database — CC0
The tactics and endgame puzzle banks (src/lib/tactics/** except composition.ts, and src/lib/endgames/exercises.ts) come from https://database.lichess.org/#puzzles, released under CC0 1.0. No attribution is required; most exercises still carry their Lichess puzzle id. Generators: scripts/generate-cc0-banks.py, scripts/generate-common-motifs.py, scripts/generate-mate-patterns.py.
Ideas, not code
The grounded-coach design (verified move facts, "findability", explaining only supplied facts) follows ideas from github.com/bihanikeshav/chesssy. That repository has no license, so none of its code or data is used here.
